International recognition has given the name of our coastline “The Graveyard of the Pacific” due to over 137 ship wrecks from 1830-1925. Besides the tragedy, the area 35km off the coast is called Swiftsure Bank, and is famous for its fishing grounds and world class Trophy Salmon and Halibut. Home to world class hiking, the challenging “West Coast Trail”, is a life saving trail that took shipwrecked passengers on foot to safety. The hiking part of the trail is 86 km (53.5 miles) long, recorded by GPS. It takes most people about 7 days to hike the WCT. Link to the best West Coast Trail web site on the Internet.
