Pacheedaht Greet Huu-ay-aht Travelling Canoe

The Huu-ay-aht invite the Pacheedaht to their opening ceremonies of their House of Huu-ay-aht" on July 15th next month in Bamfield. The tradional travelling canoe arrived on Saturday afternoon with a large warm welcome from the Pacheedaht.

A long hard paddle...
finally everyone was invited to eat and headed off to feast on smoked salmon, crab, spaggetti and assorted salads.
The name of the Huu-ay-aht's canoe is Klee-klee-ha which means "Lightning" The canoe is forty feet long. There are 12 pullers, a steersman and a speaker/singer/drummer
above image is the Pacheedaht travelling canoeThe warm welcome from the Pacheedaht was well documented by the huge turnout on the docks at Butch Jack's house. The permission to land and invitation ceremonies were spoken first in their native tongue Huu-ay-aht and then in English.
